Herbert Kessler, Margot Robbie’s grandfather, died at the age of 96.

The old man, lovingly called “Grandie” by his grandkids, died peacefully on February 1 at his Gold Coast home.

He died while she was in London promoting her new picture, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.

On Friday, February 14, 2020, Hessler’s funeral was conducted in Dalby, Queensland. It’s unknown if Margot, who was photographed filming the “Suicide Squad” sequel the day before in Panama City, Florida, was able to attend.

Herbert was a former dentist and a member of a local church, according to the Courier Mail.

In April of last year, Herbert’s wife Verna, Margot’s grandmother, died, and Herbert was residing in a retirement facility.

In early May, Robbie, 29, travelled from Los Angeles to Dalby, Queensland, for her “Narnie’s” memorial. She was also photographed visiting Herbert at a retirement facility on the Gold Coast with her mother, Sarie Kessler, and her brother, Lachlan.

The family had chosen to postpone the funeral so that Margot could get home on time.

After her father Doug Robbie left the family while the children were small, the Wolf of Wall Street actor, 29, was mostly raised by her mother.

In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Margot discussed Kessler’s effect on her upbringing, including a dinner gathering hosted by her grandparents at which he chastised his family for gossiping.

“They were talking about someone and gossiping about someone,” she explained. “And Grandy said, ‘well, he’s not here to defend himself right now, so let’s talk about something else,’ ” Grandy said.

“I want to be that type of person who hears people gossiping and says ‘let’s talk about something else.’ ”

Julia Chalmers, Herbert’s granddaughter, was with her cousin, the Oscar-nominated actress, at the Academy Awards this week.
