Christina Applegate may not have won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy on Sunday, but her responses during an awkward interview with Jenny McCarthy won the Internet.

On the 2019 Emmys red carpet, Applegate had a heated exchange with Jenny McCarthy and Giuliana Rancic.

During a red carpet interview outside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Calif. on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, the Dead to Me singer recounted an unpleasant experience that made headlines.

McCarthy remarked that the “Bad Moms” star had previously been “nominated” for a cameo appearance on “Friends.” McCarthy, who serves as a judge on Fox’s “The Masked Singer,” then proceeded to make the rest of the interview extremely unpleasant by stating, “Tonight you’re nominated for your own show. What’s that like? First time, right?”

McCarthy’s red carpet questioning on Fox’s live Emmys pre-show did not impress Applegate.

“Well, no, no,” Applegate said, her lips pursed and her gaze cast to the side. “Samantha Who?’ a couple of times, but that’s okay. We don’t have to talk about that.”

Applegate, 47, had previously been nominated for the comedy “Samantha Who?” and for cameo appearances on “Friends” twice. In 2003, she earned an award for the latter.

McCarthy then revealed to Applegate that she “grew up” watching her on “Married… With Children” and aspired to be just like her when she grew up.

“I grew up watching you of course, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I want to be her when I get older!’ Unfortunately, I didn’t get that lucky.”

Christina Applegate was the apparent winner for most vicious red carpet comments at the 2019 Emmy Awards, despite losing the award to Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame.

McCarthy’s statements were met with disapproval on Twitter.

One person commented; Jenny McCarthy, age 46, going on and on to Christina Applegate, age 47, about how she watched her when she was growing up and wanted to be her when she “got old” is grade A, D class bitchery. #Emmys

Applegate kept walking down the carpet, slamming E! anchor Giuliana Rancic.

Applegate turned to the camera when the E! News red carpet anchor inquired if her 8-year-old daughter Sadie Grace planned to watch the awards presentation, and joked, “Hi Sadie Grace, are you watching right now? I don’t know if she’s watching E!” In response, a seemingly flustered Rancic simply replied, “We’ll hope. We’ll hope.”

In an awkward moment, Rancic also requested Applegate to mention her daughter Sadie, who was watching at home.

“I don’t think she’s watching E!,” Applegate bluntly replied.

Thankfully, Applegate and Rancic’s red carpet interaction was not completely unpleasant. Applegate, who impressed in her first custom-made Vera Wang gown, also spoke up about her stunning Emmys outfit, according to E! News. “I’m going to wear this to drop-off every day for the rest of my child’s life,” she quipped, adding, “I’ve never had that done. So it’s been a process — so here we are!”
