Gage Garmo, a terminally sick young fan, had a surprise visit from Eminem, who fulfilled his final request only hours before he died.

The teenager was facing a rare and dangerous form of bone cancer, and his pals wanted to help him realize a long-held goal. They launched a social media effort to lure the rapper to Rochester, Michigan, a Detroit suburb, to meet Garmo. Their efforts were aided when The Rainbow Connection, a Michigan-based organization that grants wishes to children with terminal diseases, learned of Garmo’s situation and was able to set up a meeting with the 8 Mile rapper within 48 hours.

Eminem went to Gage Garmo’s house about 5 p.m. after flying in from Atlanta. The two sat down and talked about their passion of hip hop and the Detroit Lions.

Onlookers claim that when the 42-year-old rapper arrived at the residence, Garmo lit up.

“Gage sat up with a grin on his face,” said Ingrid Todt, who was present at the meeting. “His family hadn’t seen their son do that in such a long time.”

Garmo died on Monday night. On Friday, he would have turned eighteen.

Mary Grace McCarter, executive director of the charity Rainbow Connection, told the Free Press, “We’re so glad we were able to reach Eminem’s people and they were able to respond, and Eminem was able to go and see this boy in his own home on such short notice. It says something about everybody, really. I hope all the students and friends of Gage feel good about their well-wishes too.”

Eminem’s visit, however, will live on in the minds of everyone who saw the rapper and the kid interact.

Todt describes it as “one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. The stars aligned, and Gage’s wish came true.”

Eminem only had one condition for their meeting: no media. He didn’t want the Garmo home swarmed by reporters.

Eminem hid his car in the Garmo family’s garage, according to the Detroit News, but knowledge spread when the Rainbow Connection publicized the encounter later on social media.

In 2008, during his freshman year of high school, Garmo was diagnosed with bone cancer. His health began to deteriorate fast at the beginning of January, according to sources, and he was given just a week to live.

Since he doesn’t want public exposure, Eminem secretly reaches out to followers and conducts altruistic gestures behind the scenes, according to the insider.
