Kirk Cameron’s latest film, Fireproof, has a scene in which Kirk’s character kissed the woman who played his wife. There was just one issue. Except for his real-life wife, Cameron refuses to kiss any woman.

The kissing sequence in the film was shot in silhouette so that Kirk Cameron’s wife could stand in for his co-star, he told interviewers on MSNBC’s Today show.

“I have a commitment not to kiss any other woman,” the former “Growing Pains” child actor told Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford on TODAY in New York on Monday.

Cameron indicated that the producers used a little cinematic magic to get around the problem.

“So when I’m kissing my wife, we’re actually husband and wife honoring marriage behind the scenes,” Cameron explained as Gifford and Kotb melted in the romance of the moment.

Mr. Cameron is a devout Christian, and the film aims to deliver a strong Christian message about marriage.

Sherwood Baptist Church in Georgia developed the film as a counter to Hollywood’s depiction of relationships.

Cameron began acting when he was nine years old and rose to stardom on “Growing Pains” when he was fourteen. Following his conversion to Christianity, he had some disagreements with his fellow cast members and the show’s producers over what he considered to be immoral storylines.

Today, he tells Meredith Vieira, Gifford, and Kotb that he only works on projects and films that he believes in. His most recent film is an example. “Fireproof is an action-packed love story,” he remarked. “It’s about a firefighter. He’s on the brink of a divorce.”

Cameron believes that the film represents his beliefs. “The reason this movie was important to me personally is because I love my wife dearly,” he explained. “We’ve been married for 17 years … and we have six children. So marriage is a very special and sacred thing to us. In a day and age where marriage is falling apart, we want to make movies and projects that really uphold and have a high view of that which is beautiful and wonderful in our culture.”

The film’s budget was $500,000 (about £277,000). Fireproof has only been screening on 839 screens in America for a few days, yet it has already grossed over $2 million (£1.1 million).

The film Fireproof will be released in cinemas on September 26th.
