Gene Hackman, the 93-year-old Hollywood legend, has been spotted in public for the first time in years.

The Superman: The Movie star has been living a reclusive life with his wife, pianist Betsy Arakawa, on their ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico since his retirement from Hollywood in 2004.

Daily Loud posted photos of Hackman on Twitter, where he can be seen holding a cup of coffee and a snack of some sort, as well as sitting behind the wheel of his truck.

This rare public appearance shows that Hackman is still looking good for his age and is sharp enough to operate a motor vehicle.

Hackman’s retirement has not been an idle one, as he is an avid cyclist and has also taken up writing novels.

Despite his success and achievements, he remains humble and unassuming, opting to spend his retirement in peace on his ranch with his wife.

Unlike other aging actors who have stepped back from their careers due to cognitive decline, Hackman simply decided to retire.

He has an impressive acting career of 102 credits to his name, including classics such as The French Connection, Get Shorty, Crimson Tide, and The Conversation.

Hackman’s decision to retire is understandable given his long and accomplished career.

Clint Eastwood, who starred with Hackman in Unforgiven, has 72 acting credits, while Tom Cruise, who worked with Hackman in The Firm, has less than half that number.

In a 2021 interview with the New York Post, Hackman credited The French Connection with helping his career.

However, he admitted that he had not seen the 1972 Oscar-winning film since it was first released.

“I haven’t seen the film since the first screening in a dark, tiny viewing room 50 years ago,” he said.

Hackman’s retirement has been compared to his hermit character in Young Frankenstein. He has become almost as elusive as Bigfoot, making his recent public sighting a rare treat for fans.

Although he suffered injuries from being struck by a motorist while vacationing in Florida in 2012, Hackman made a full recovery, proving that he is a tough guy both on and off-screen.
