Jamie Lee Curtis is one of those fortunate parents who has learned vital life lessons through her children. The actress spoke up about practically every aspect of her life, including the fact that her and husband Christopher Guest’s second kid identifies as trans. The Halloween star’s pride was palpable.

In a new interview with AARP magazine, the Knives Out and Halloween actress proudly shared the news with her daughter Ruby’s permission. The philanthropist, performer, and novelist discusses her “great mental migration” that began in her 50s after raising her two children to maturity, overcoming drug addiction, and “doing a whole lot of reading.”

Curtis has continued to delight and inspire audiences with her performances, beginning with her breakout role in John Carpenter’s Halloween. Her personal life has also been tracked by fans.

“I watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter Ruby,” the actress and screenwriter says of her 35-year marriage to actor-director Christopher Guest. Lee’s daughter is a 25-year-old computer game editor. Lee and Guest also have a 34-year-old daughter, Annie, who works as a dance instructor.

Curtis revealed, “She and her fiancé will marry next year at a wedding that I will officiate.”

Curtis and Guest aren’t grandparents yet — “But hope to be.”

Curtis told the magazine that, in addition to other things she’s letting go of, such as “vampire” connections, she’s also abandoned one of the fundamental and long-held beliefs: that gender is immutable.

She admits, “I am somebody who sheds every day. Let’s get rid of that, I don’t need that. It’s all about old ideas that don’t work anymore.”

Curtis is well-known for her abilities as well as her personality, and the news of her daughter Ruby is evidence of her open mind. It will be fascinating to watch how the trans community and advocacy groups react to this message of love.

Several celebrities, like Dwyane Wade and Charlize Theron, have been public in their support for their transgender children. In addition to her children’s novels like It’s Hard to Be Five, Curtis and Guest co-founded the Syzygy Foundation, which promotes children’s health. Curtis started My Hand in Yours, an online store benefiting Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, in 2020.

Curtis also discussed her marriage to Guest, whom she referred to as her “one and only” throughout the conversation. The actress said that she had written him a song on their 35th wedding anniversary. The chorus of “I feel safe when I drive up and see that you are home” was part of the song’s lyrics, which celebrated how Guest continues to make her feel after all these years.

Curtis elaborated on the lyrics, saying, “That’s the long marriage. It’s the safety of knowing his car is in the garage, that I’m not alone, and that he’s here.”

Curtis has also been open about her own struggles with addiction. JLC’s sober path is bound to inspire many, especially because she utilizes her platform to raise awareness and donations for charity.

Jamie Lee Curtis, of course, has made a lot of news recently for her outstanding career and professional life. Curtis recently concluded the Borderlands film and will return to cinemas in October with Halloween Kills. With her critically acclaimed part in Knives Out, the audible series Letters From Camp, and the recently debuted Good Friend podcast, Curtis has a lot on her plate.
