During the Winter 2023 TCA panel in Pasadena, it was revealed that Harrison Ford, who stars in the upcoming series Shrinking, had sent his co-star Jason Segel a surprising text.
Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence spilled the beans on how he managed to convince Ford to join the show, and in doing so, he revealed that Ford had texted Segel with a compliment about his Forgetting Sarah Marshall n^dty ahead of shooting the series.
The exact content of the text became a source of humor for the Shrinking panel.
The series, co-created by Lawrence and Ted Lasso writer/star Brett Goldstein, follows a therapist named Jimmy (Jason Segel) who begins to give his clients honest advice on how to change their lives, after experiencing a personal tragedy.
Not everyone is pleased with Jimmy’s new approach, especially his older, curmudgeonly colleague, played by Harrison Ford.
Although Ford was unable to attend the panel due to a family vacation, his involvement in the series was a topic of conversation.
Lawrence and his wife Christa Miller, who also stars in Shrinking, are Ford’s neighbors.
Lawrence showed Ford the script and introduced him to Brett Goldstein.
After meeting Goldstein, Ford reportedly said, “I love that guy!”.
However, Goldstein was tied up with Ted Lasso Season 3, so Lawrence informed Ford that he would be co-starring with Jason Segel instead.
Ford didn’t know who Segel was, so Lawrence set him up with a series of titles starring Segel, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Segel later revealed that he received a text message from Ford complimenting him on his memorable n^de scene in the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
At first, Segel was reluctant to reveal the exact wording of the text, but after some prodding from panel members, it was revealed that the text was closer to “nice p=nis.”
Segel joked that his willingness to be physically and emotionally vulnerable is due to the fact that he doesn’t have a real sense of shame.
Miller also revealed that Ford would present her with tequila after every day of shooting, and Lawrence disclosed that Ford would occasionally do reshoots in his and Miller’s backyard.
Shrinking also features Michael Urie, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, and Lukita Maxwell.
The series is one of Apple TV+’s twelve panels at Winter 2023 TCA.
The show follows Jimmy as he helps his clients change their lives, but his new approach isn’t well-received by everyone, especially his older, more traditional colleague.
Lawrence and his wife Miller are neighbors with Harrison Ford, and when Lawrence showed Ford the script for Shrinking, he was enthusiastic about the idea.
Although he was initially disappointed that he wouldn’t be working with Brett Goldstein, he was excited to co-star alongside Jason Segel, even though he didn’t know who Segel was at the time.
Segel revealed that Ford had sent him a compliment on his n^de scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which he claims is now framed.
When asked to reveal the exact wording of the text, Segel initially demurred, but he eventually revealed that the text was a compliment about his “nice p=nis.”
