Anne Hathaway has opened up about her struggles with media criticism in a recent interview with InStyle.

The actress revealed that she used to feel “hunted” by the press, which made her very unhappy. However, she has been working on changing her mindset and being true to herself.

“Life’s too short to be anyone but yourself. Let the chips fall where they may,” she said.

Hathaway specifically mentioned an article published by The New York Times in 2013, which was titled “Do We Really Hate Anne Hathaway?” and featured quotes from writers who did not like the star.

“I feel like she’s not a real person” and “Why are you so annoying?” were just a couple of the negative comments included in the piece.

The actress addressed the criticism and the article’s writer directly, stating, “You and I both know there is a certain type of media that trades on desperation and will paint someone with that filter if it will make them money, whether the story is true or not.”

The actress also reflected on a time in her life when she wasn’t comfortable being herself and pretended to be someone else.

“There was a stretch of my life when I wasn’t comfortable being myself. I didn’t think I was good enough. So I pretended to be someone I wasn’t,” she revealed.

However, she now seems to be thriving in the spotlight. In April, she covered Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” on Lip Sync Battle and won over the audience.
