Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan were married from 1991 to 2001. Ryan recently accused Quaid of cheating on her throughout their marriage.

In an interview with Insight magazine, Ryan said, “Dennis was not faithful to me for a very long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that after I was divorced.”

Quaid, who now has a happy family with his new wife Kimberly Buffington, responded to Ryan’s accusations by saying, “It was eight years ago, and I find it unbelievable that Meg continues publicly to rehash and rewrite the story of our relationship.”

Quaid also expressed regret that their son, Jack, would have to be reminded of the pain of their divorce in a public way.

He said, “I, myself, moved on years ago and am fortunate to have a happy, beautiful family.” Ryan and Quaid have a 16-year-old son together and share custody.

Ryan’s accusations come after years of silence on the subject. In 2000, she had a brief affair with her Proof of Life co-star Russell Crowe, which led to her being portrayed as a homewrecker in the media.

For years, Ryan refused to discuss her personal life with interviewers, despite the criticism she faced. However, in the recent interview with Insight, she said, “I think I made a mistake in not talking more specifically” about Quaid’s infidelity.

Despite this, Ryan does not regret what happened. She said, “I am not a victim. I was there. I was in that marriage for a really long time. Some days you think, This is so crazy, and you are all intellectual about it. And other days, it’s just really, really painful.”

Ryan added that she believes the media’s portrayal of her as a homewrecker was too simplistic and did not accurately reflect the complexity of the situation.

She said, “I think when things get played out that simply in black-and-white, it makes people feel good… The tabloid culture can’t tell a complicated story.”

Despite the difficulties she faced, Ryan also spoke about the positive aspects of her sudden change in popularity. She said, “I didn’t have to care about what people thought. I could…be totally under the radar and live my life.”

In the interview, Ryan also talked about her love for her adopted Chinese daughter, Daisy True, who is now three years old.

She said, “I don’t feel like I adopted a child. I feel like I just got this unbelievable companion… I have that exact same thing with Daisy. I feel like we made some agreement, long ago and far away, to meet in the way we did.”

Ryan’s interview with Insight offers a rare and candid look at her thoughts on her failed marriage and the media’s portrayal of her.

She has been relatively private about her personal life in recent years, but her decision to speak out about Quaid’s infidelity provides insight into the difficulties she faced during and after their marriage.
