Jon Bon Jovi and his wife Dorothea have been together for 40 years and they recently opened up to People magazine about their relationship.
The couple met in high school in the 1980s in Sayreville, New Jersey, and they have four children together.
When asked about the secret to their long-lasting romance, Jon said it was all about mutual respect and enjoying each other’s company.
“Having grown up together and grown together. And we really like each other. We want to hang out.”
Dorothea added that she always knew Jon had potential and that she has a “gift” for spotting it.
In the early days of their relationship, Jon admitted to cheating on Dorothea, but fortunately, it worked out in their favor.
Dorothea joked that she was attracted to Jon because he was cute, and she admitted to being shallow.
Despite Jon’s success as a rockstar, he insists that his marriage has kept him grounded. He said that they work hard at their relationship and have avoided the pitfalls of fame.
“We work hard at it,” he told the publication. “But we enjoy each other and we never fell for the trappings of what celebrity can do.
“We’ve witnessed that happen over the years to people that were close to us and people that we knew from afar. It’s just what I do, it’s not who I am. I write songs. I happen to be very good at performing them. That’s it.”
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Jon and Dorothea have been focusing on their charity, the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which has a goal of ending homelessness and hunger.
Jon said that he doesn’t need a scientist to find a cure for these issues, but rather a roof over someone’s head and food in their belly.
In addition to their charity work, Jon also has a new album coming out in October called 2020. He said that he enjoys writing songs and performing them, but it’s not who he is as a person.
