Miley Cyrus’ jet had to make an emergency landing after being struck by lightning on Tuesday night.

Miley was flying to Asuncionico, Paraguay, to perform at the 2022 Asuncionico music festival when her plane was caught in a strong storm.

The singer informed her fans on her Instagram account on Wednesday of the incident. A video of a bolt of lightning seen from one of the plane’s windows was included in the post.

“To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción. Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram.

“My crew, band, friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing,” she wrote.

“We were unfortunately unable to fly into Paraguay. 💔 I LOVE YOU,” Cyrus said.

The singer is presently on a three-show tour in South America, her first visit to the continent in over seven years.

Miley was performing at the Movistar Arena in Bogotá, Colombia, only hours before the jet took off. She shared video highlights from the show, thanking fans for a fantastic evening.

She will still perform at Lollapalooza Brasil on March 26 in So Paulo.

The first day of the event was canceled due to poor weather conditions in Paraguay. Other performers such as Foo Fighters, Machine Gun Kelly, and Doja Cat were unable to perform as a result.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimates that commercial flights are struck by lightning once or twice a year. According to the organization, “They are designed and built to have conducting paths through the plane to take the lightning strike and conduct the currents.”

According to the NOAA, a lightning strike has not caused a commercial airliner to crash in decades, although smaller and private planes that “are not required to be designed for protection from lightning,” have crashed due to lightning strikes.
