The Irish Independent reported on Wednesday that UFC fighter Conor McGregor was detained in Dublin on Tuesday for unsafe driving.

When McGregor was pulled over, he was reportedly driving his Bentley Continental GT. Police took his vehicle, which is valued at $187,000, but it was later returned.

McGregor was stopped by officials for “alleged road traffic violations,” according to Karen Kessler, the fighter’s publicist.

“Mr. McGregor was driving to the gym when he was stopped by Gardai for alleged road traffic violations. He passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station,” Kessler said.

McGregor was charged with dangerous driving and freed on bail, with a court date set for next month. Ironically, it will be the same court where he was penalized in 2017 for speeding. If convicted, McGregor may face a fine and/or a sentence of up to six months in jail.

This infringement will almost certainly result in McGregor paying a higher fine than his prior one. A fine for unsafe driving may be as high as €5,000 (approximately $5,500). McGregor may also be sentenced to up to six months in jail. Depending on the outcome of the case, he might face both sentences.

“Gardai arrested a man aged in his 30s in relation an incident of dangerous driving in the Palmerstown area yesterday evening, Tuesday 22nd March 2022,” according to a statement from local police.

“The man was taken to Lucan Garda Station where he was later charged. He has been released pending an appearance before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date.”

According to Forbes, McGregor was the world’s highest-paid athlete last year, earning $180 million. When McGregor sold his controlling ownership in his whiskey company, Proper No. Twelve, he made more than $80 million.

After fracturing his leg at UFC 264, the Irishman has been spending a lot of time in his hometown as he works his way back to full health.

It’s unknown when he’ll return, which he’s promised to do for a long time.
