It’s either the smoking gun in the Spider-Man rumor mill, or it’s just proof that some individuals are incredibly talented at picture manipulation. On Monday night, photographs of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland dressed in their individual Spider-Man costumes on the set of the forthcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home surfaced on Twitter. Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, also appears in a photo.

The three of them are bloodied and bruised on a cruise ship at night, most likely following a fight scene. They’ve all taken off their masks and are staring at something outside the frame. Tobey’s hair is considerably shorter now than it was previously.

Another shot has Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan beside Marissa Tomei as Aunt May. When Charlie Cox appeared in the picture, things became even more intriguing. He is well recognized for his role as Daredevil. The actor can be seen wearing a bold grey suit, red spectacles, and holding a walking stick.

The images first emerged on John Campea’s Twitter account. The YouTuber first claimed that the photographs were fabricated, but he later removed them after becoming convinced that the images of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were genuine. Of course, the photographs had already circulated by the time he pulled them down, replete with Campea’s watermark.

While some fans are ecstatic with the ostensible ‘confirmation’ that the three would be collaborating, others suspect the images are fake. In a tweet, one said, “These gotta be fake right?” “I’m suspicious of the matt ones. He’s wearing the same suit he wore in S1 with the same tie placement (slightly changed, but that can be edited) and his legs are placed weirdly to how he’s sitting,” wrote another. “I think Andrew’s pose is from Amazing Spider Man 2, its photoshopped, second scene will be removed by marvel in the movie,” wrote another.

So, are the photographs authentic? There’s no way to tell until Sony and/or Marvel confirm them, or until the film opens in cinemas in just over a month. At least one fan, on the other hand, is certain they’re real. The Tobey Maguire FanClub, a Twitter fan club, shared some comparison photographs. Holland’s battle damage make-up appears to be the same in both the leaked shot and the official set photo, they claim. They also point to a place on the railing behind Andrew Garfield that resembles a railing from last month’s allegedly leaked camera footage of Garfield from No Way Home.

From 2002 to 2004, Maguire portrayed Peter Parker; from 2012 to 2014, Garfield took over as the web-slinger superhero in a relaunch of the franchise. In 2016, Holland made his debut appearance as Spider-Man on film.

Zendaya also appears in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will be released on December 17th.
