Nicole Kidman has made some unusual statements regarding her divorce from Tom Cruise in 2001.

While Kidman, 54, and Cruise, 59, seldom discuss their 11-year marriage, the actress recently spoke up about the media circus that surrounded them when they were together. Kidman questioned whether she was too open about their love throughout their relationship in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar for the publication’s new cover story.

Kidman told the interviewer, “I was young. I think I offered it up? Maybe I’ve gotten a bit more trepidatious, but I’m always trying to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way.” She further added, “I’m wary at times, and I’ve been hurt, but at the same time I much prefer a warm approach rather than a prickly shutdown approach.”

The actress made reference to her current husband, country singer Keith Urban, saying: “My husband, Keith, says that when he met me, he said, ‘How’s your heart?’ And I apparently responded, ‘Open.'”

The romance between Kidman and Cruise blossomed on the set of Days of Thunder. Only six months after the film’s premiere in 1990, the pair married. They were together for more than a decade before splitting in 2001.

Kidman and Cruise have two children, Bella, 28, and Connor, 26, but she appears to have a distant relationship with her Scientologist children.

Kidman and Cruise have been respectful of their children’s privacy since their separation. In July 2018, a source told PEOPLE that Cruise “loves all his children. And each of them has a right to their own story.”

Urban and Kidman met at an event in 2005, and Urban stated he knew the actress from “Nine Perfect Strangers” would one day marry him. Since then, the two have been inseparable. On the ‘Today’ show, the singer spoke up about their engagement while revisiting the location where it took place, New York City. According to Fox News, he proposed to his girlfriend somewhere along the Hudson River.

The “Big Little Lies” star and Urban married in 2006 and have two kids, Sunday Rose, 13, and Faith Margaret, 10 years old.

Kidman has starred in a number of award-winning films: American Civil War, Boy Erased: A Memoir, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, and Aquaman, among others. Being the Ricardos and the miniseries Expats are among Nicole Kidman’s forthcoming films.
