Ewan McGregor and his fiancée Mary Elizabeth Winstead quietly welcomed their first child last week, his daughters have revealed.

‘Welcome to the world little brother ❤️ congratulations to my Dad & Mary – this is the greatest gift,’ the trainspotting star’s daughter captioned a pair of images of her cuddling the adorable new baby.

McGregor’s younger daughter, 19-year-old Esther, also posted an Instagram photo of herself cuddling Laurie, the family’s newest member.

“Met my little brother looking like a pirate. I recommend!,” she captioned a trio of sweet images. “Welcome to the family little Laurie.”

Ewan and Mary were able to keep the pregnancy a total secret from the public, and the 36-year-old actress was not seen sporting a baby bump.

While this is the actress’s first kid, McGregor is the father of five. In addition to Clara and Esther, the Halston star has two additional children from a prior relationship with Eve Mavrakis, 20-year-old Jamyan and 10-year-old Anouk, whom he divorced in August 2020 after 22 years of marriage. McGregor and Winstead initially met as costars on the third season of the TV drama Fargo in late 2016, but both stars were married at the time. After seven years of marriage, Winstead and her spouse, Riley Stearns, filed for divorce in May 2017. By the fall of that year, she and McGregor had been seen kissing while walking their dogs in New York City. Before the couple formalized their divorce this summer, McGregor filed for his own divorce in January 2018, alleging irreconcilable differences, and in November 2019, he requested a judge to formally proclaim him and Mavrakis legally single.

Winstead spoke to Glamour U.K. in January 2020 about starting again after her first marriage ended. “I got divorced a couple of years ago, which was a scary, crazy thing for me because I had been with the same person since I was 18 years old, and that was what I knew,” she explained. “I was really starting new as an adult for the first time in my life. For me that was a big turning point, being OK with changing, accepting that change is a good thing and that it’s OK not to know where that change is going to take you.”

Ewan and Eve have four children, two of them are adopted. Jamiyan, who was born in Mongolia, joined the family in 2006, and Anouk was adopted in 2011.

McGregor and Mavrakis finalized their divorce in the summer of 2020.
