Emily Blunt’s red carpet style at the Met Gala 2021 stood out.

The actress, 38, wore a jeweled Miu Miu dress with modest fringe to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, Sept. 13. It also has a beautiful headpiece with stars and an enormous, billowing cloak.

Social media users became nostalgic following Emily’s appearance at the Met Gala 2021. “Emily Blunt channeling `old Hollywood` wearing this Miu Miu look inspired by Hedy Lamarr from the 1941 film `Ziegfeld Girl`! Absolutely stunning,” a Twitter user said.

Another person commented, “Emily blunt serving old hollywood fashion at the #metgala.” For a modern touch, Blunt added a few outsized pearls on her headpiece.

Blunt’s outfit was distinctly retro—with a few updated touches—while other stars on the red carpet looked to the future of American fashion for the event this year. Hedy Lamarr, the renowned actress and star of the classic fashion film Ziegfeld Girl, which was released in 1941, was the inspiration for the whole outfit. Both outfits featured star-studded headpieces, albeit Blunt’s was considerably more understated. Rather than a full-fledged tiara, Blunt’s version had silver strands wrapped around a sleek updo. For a charming, contemporary touch, Blunt’s headpiece included a few large pearls.

The British actress last attended the Met Gala in 2019, which was themed “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” She accessorized with a gold Michael Kors gown with gold crystals and flora motifs, as well as a gold headpiece and purse. According to Vogue, hand embroidery of the 510,000 sequins and 1,344 gems took 15,000 hours.

Michael told the magazine at the time, “That level of opulence and shine is what you want for the Met red carpet.” The tribute to American fashion will be split into two exhibitions for this year’s celebrations. Part one, titled “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” will be on view on September 18 and “establish a modern vocabulary of fashion in the United States,” per the press release, and showcase works by a diverse group of designers. It will explore “belonging, comfort, delight, exuberance, fear, sentimentality, and well-being.”

Meanwhile, Emily was most recently seen in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, where she shared a display house with Dwyane Johnson.
