Royal fans were quick to note parallels between Lady Kitty Spencer’s wedding gown and that of her aunt, Princess Diana.

Kitty Spencer married 62-year-old fashion entrepreneur Michael Lewis in a spectacular wedding in Frascati, Italy, earlier this month. The 30-year-old model donned five distinct gowns for the big day, all of them were special Dolce & Gabbana designs.

Spencer chose a lacy, Victorian-inspired gown for her actual walk down the aisle, which many people immediately compared to Kate Middleton’s iconic royal wedding gown.

Although the outfit appeared to be extremely different from her aunt’s, there were a few significant parallels you may have overlooked. First and foremost, there are the statement sleeves. Diana wore a gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel with enormous puff sleeves. Although Kitty’s sleeves were not as big as Diana’s, they were an important part of the garment.

On her wedding day 40 years ago, the Princess, of course, wore a magnificent 25-foot sequin-encrusted train.

Kitty’s wasn’t quite as long, but she, too, wore an eye-catching, dramatic veil with some significant length in the back. The 30-year-old wore her hair back in a sleek manner, allowing the brilliant design to speak for itself.

That wasn’t the only thing gleaned from the social media photos.

Hello! The similarities between the two gowns include puffed sleeves and elaborate lace trimming. Whether they were deliberate references to Diana’s gown or simply confirmation that the Spencers’ legendary sense of style runs in the family, the parallels are quite lovely.

Dolce & Gabbana released clips of the bride’s gorgeous gown on Instagram on Sunday, showing Kitty getting fitted in the white gown as well as five other lovely ensembles.

“For the main dress she wanted to keep a fairly traditional, clean cut, but at the same time she desired to have a timeless allure,” Dolce & Gabbana told Tatler. “But she is also a girl who is very attached to her origins, to England; to her heritage of the great Victorian era. And like all the English people, she has a great passion for all kinds of flowers.”

Kitty took to Instagram on Thursday for the first time since the wedding to pay tribute to her half-brothers.

She said: “The proudest moment of my life, without a doubt, was having my brothers walk me down the aisle.

“Thank you to our family and friends for the most unforgettable weekend filled with more love and laughter and happiness than I have ever known.

“It still feels like a dream.”
