During her tenure as Secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary Clinton sent or received 62,320 emails.

After Hillary left office, the State Department informed her that she needed to turn over all of her work-related emails to them, so she entrusted a legal team with assessing which emails were work-related and which were not.

She or her attorneys concluded that about half of those – 30,490 pages – were official and gave them to the State Department.

She handed over the work emails because she was legally obligated to do so. She erased the others, probably because she didn’t want Trey Gowdy and Jason Chaffetz rummaging through her inbox and releasing everything they found entertaining to local journalists.

Mrs Clinton stated that the other emails are private and pertain to issues such as her daughter’s wedding, her mother’s burial, and “yoga routines”

The FBI discovered “several thousand” work-related emails that were not handed over to the State Department, but it decided that the emails were deleted prior to 2014 and were not erased purposefully “in an effort to conceal them”
