The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the birth of their baby on Sunday June 6. The couple has named their daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in honor of her great-grandmother.

Lilibet was Her Majesty’s childhood nickname, and the baby is also named after Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

Royal admirers were overjoyed to learn that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their daughter.

Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born shortly before noon on Friday, but the couple did not reveal the news until 2 days later.

And we may have to wait a little longer before we get an official picture of the Royal Family’s newest addition.

Since standing down as senior working members of the royal family last year, the pair has adopted a more private approach to sharing photos, with their most recent birthday portrait of their son Archie, two, excluding his face.

Trending:

When Archie turned two in May, Harry and Meghan decided not to show his face, instead publishing a photo of their son with his back to the camera. Archie could be seen clutching balloons in what seemed to be their backyard in Montecito in the picture, which they posted on their Archewell charity website. Meghan posted a video of herself reading a book to Archie on his first birthday last year as part of a charity drive for Save the Children.

It was formerly customary to see any new member of the royal family in the days after their birth.

“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” they said in a statement.

“Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.

“She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.

“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.

“This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”

Because Harry and Meghan are no longer senior royals, they are not under the same kind of pressure to disclose pictures and information about their children.
