The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have given birth to their second child, a daughter called Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

The baby, Archie’s first sibling, was delivered on Friday in California, according to Prince Harry and Meghan.

Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was lovingly known as Lilibet by her family, and her grandmother, Princess Diana.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward believes Her Majesty would be “confused” by the name choice, given Meghan and Harry’s previous criticism of the Royal Family.

“How charming that Harry and Meghan have decided to call their daughter Lilibet or Lily as a compliment to the Queen,” the royal scribe wrote in a piece for The Sun.

“But how strange as they profess to want to remove themselves from royal life that they have chosen to use such an intimate royal nickname for their daughter.

“It was affectionately used by only her parents and her husband.

“But I am certain she will be pleased and perhaps a little confused that Prince Harry has decided to use this name.”

She added:

“The Queen has a healthy disregard for nicknames.

“When her son Prince Andrew’s affair with Koo Stark was all over the press the only thing she said is, ‘why can’t they all be Katherine?’.”

“Of course Harry wants to remember his mother so the name Diana had to be in there somewhere.

“But where is Meghan’s parentage in all of this?”

Lilibet is a derivation of Elizabeth, a Hebrew name that means “God is my oath,” and the Queen’s father, King George VI, reportedly said: “Lilibet is my pride. Margaret is my joy.”

The Queen’s childhood moniker was also one that her late husband, Prince Philip, who died on April 9, 2021, regularly used.

Lilibet, the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild, is the eighth in line to the throne.

Buckingham Palace says the Queen is “delighted” after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the birth of their second child, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

“The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news,” stated Buckingham Palace.

“Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie on the arrival of baby Lilibet Diana. Wishing them all well at this special time,” Prince Charles, Prince Harry’s father, and the Duchess of Cornwall tweeted.

“We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili,” said Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.
