On Friday, June 4, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their second child, Lilibet Diana, in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California, and announced the news to the rest of the world two days later.

Rather than contacting his brother, Prince William, Prince Harry texted Kate Middleton about Lilibet’s birth, according to insiders. Amid their prolonged conflict, the Duchess of Cambridge appears to be acting as a “bridge” between the brothers.

It’s no secret that the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge have had a tense relationship in recent months, and Duchess Kate has allegedly been serving as a mediator between the two brothers.

A Palace insider told The Mail on Sunday that Harry sent the text message to Kate to “cementing her role as a bridge between him and his brother.” Kate has always been in charge of keeping things cordial between Prince Harry and Prince William, but with Lilibet’s birth, this has become much more evident.

After two days, the Sussexes released a message announcing her arrival, thanking fans for their outpouring of love and support for their child on their Archewell website. “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe,” the couple’s personal statement read. “Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then took to their official Instagram account to congratulate the Sussexes on their newest family member.

Will and Kate shared a black and white photo of Harry and Meghan standing with their son, Archie, on Instagram, writing, “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili,” “Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.”

Harry and Meghan received a congratulations gift from Kate and Will in honor of Lilibet’s birth. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “have sent Lilibet a gift,” according to a Us Weekly insider.

The whole royal family is apparently “delighted” with the newest member to the family, and they all published messages on social media congratulating the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, no matter how Prince William and Kate were informed of Lili’s arrival.

The Duchess of Cambridge is thought to have kept the peace between the brothers during Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021, which marked Prince Harry’s first visit to the United Kingdom and face-to-face meeting with his brother since his and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah on CBS in March 2021. After their grandfather’s ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, Harry and William were seen comfortably talking, indicating that whatever role Kate performed worked out well.

But following their reunification in the United Kingdom, Harry and William’s relationship is said to have remained difficult. The Duke of Sussex has continued to talk honestly about his experience as a royal since coming home to Montecito, Calif., whether as a guest on podcasts or as part of his Apple TV+ mental health docuseries with Oprah Winfrey. Let’s just say William isn’t pleased with his remarks: According to Us Weekly, the Duke of Cambridge “feels that Harry should discuss his issues privately and can’t comprehend why he continues to shade his own flesh and blood on TV.”

When Kate was queried about her baby niece during a recent panel discussion with First Lady Jill Biden, she said, “I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her. We haven’t met her yet… I hope that it will be soon.”  Kate also said that she hasn’t seen Lili on FaceTime yet.
