Prince Harry once said it was William who ‘saved’ him and not Meghan Markle

Prince Harry has praised his wife Meghan Markle with saving him and pushing him to get treatment for his mental health.

However, according to historian Angela Levin, the Duke of Sussex confided to her a few years ago that he sought assistance for his mental health concerns because his brother Prince William, not Meghan, motivated him.

Levin revealed the chat she had with Harry and how she had questioned him, “Are you going because Meghan suggested it?” on Good Morning Britain.

“Absolutely not, she had nothing to do with it, it was William. He was the one who saved me,” he said.

“Either he told me something that was not true or he’s saying something not true now,” Levin remarked on the show.

According to BuzzFeed News, Prince Harry’s current utterances contradicted his prior ones.

The publication enquired about the Duke of Sussex’s contradictory views, and his spokesperson making a distinction between Prince Harry’s private hardships and public activism. According to the spokesman, though Prince Harry sought mental health therapy before to meeting Markle, it was the duchess who pushed him to seek a therapist who could provide him with the attention and support he required.

Vanity Fair’s royal journalist Katie Nicholl stated, “What I would like to hear Harry say is that the first person to suggest that he go into therapy was his brother.”

“A lot of people are upset that Harry is conveniently erasing what he has said before and giving us this new narrative that it was his wife that got him into therapy when actually, initially it was his brother and his father that encouraged him to get it,” she added.

“I think it is worth making the point as well, that how much more of an appetite is there going to be for them talking about this subject?” she continued.

“How much more can you wring out of it? I just feel people, even in America where they seem to hang on every word this couple say, will say ‘we have heard enough, you have to change your tune now.’”

Prince Harry has established himself as an advocate for mental health awareness. He developed the Invictus Games, an international athletic event for veterans, and launched Heads Together, a statewide mental health awareness campaign. He also recently collaborated with Oprah Winfrey on the film “The Me You Can’t See”

The first of these inconsistencies is Harry’s recent claims in The Me You Can’t See that members of the royal family aren’t encouraged to speak about mental health — despite the fact that eradicating the stigma surrounding public discussions of the issue was one of the most important causes he championed as a working royal.

During his engagement interview with Meghan Markle in 2017, Prince Harry talked affectionately of his family and how supportive they were of them.

Years before the docuseries was announced, Harry began the #HeadsTogether initiative with his brother and sister-in-law, Prince William and Kate Middleton. The initiative’s purpose was to “end stigma around mental health” and “change the national conversation on mental wellbeing,” demonstrating that working royals championed the cause.

“The family together have been absolutely, you know, a solid support and my grandparents as well have been — have been wonderful throughout this whole process and they’ve known for quite some time. So how they — how they haven’t told anybody is again a miracle in itself. But now the whole family have come together and have been a huge amount of support,” Prince Harry said.

However, while speaking about his family in the Apple TV+ docuseries, Prince Harry’s tone shifted. The royals are said to have been unsupportive of his and his wife’s mental health issues. According to him, there was a time when Markle was suicidal and they sought help, but they were greeted with complete silence.

“I thought my family would help, but every single ask, request, warning, whatever, it is just got met with total silence, total neglect,” Prince Harry was quoted by People as saying in the docuseries. “We spent four years trying to make it work. We did everything that we possibly could to stay there and carry on doing the role and doing the job. But Meghan was struggling.”
