The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey has finally elicited a response from the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

Prince Edward and his wife, the Countess of Wessex, laughed about the contentious conversation and stressed that the royals remain a family ‘no matter what happens.’

It was during this conversation when disturbing words regarding Archie were uncovered, which made Oprah gasp with horror. This interview was also the subject of almost 5,000 complaints once it was made public.

Sophie Wessex and Prince Edward were asked for their thoughts on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s allegations against the royal family during an interview with The Telegraph – and their reaction was amusing.

Prince Edward simply said, “Oprah, who?” Sophie said with a laugh, “What interview?”

A scene from Meghan and Prince Harry’s royal wedding was also addressed.

Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, had supposedly had a lengthy talk with Oprah at the time.

However, he had been completely unaware of who she was the entire time.

Sophie defended Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who famously asked Oprah what she did for a career at Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

“You know, if you’re not into chat shows, there’s no reason why you should know who she is,” Sophie added. “Certainly not in this country, anyway.”

The Wessexes also commented on Prince Philip’s burial a little more than a month after his death, with Prince Edward explaining how coronavirus limitations made for a ‘very odd’ ceremony, and the especially heartbreaking moment ‘when everything stopped.’

Sophie stated in the Wessexes’ first public comments since that historic day, ‘We are still a family no matter what happens, we always will be.’

The Countess of Wessex also acknowledged to having a “lengthy chat” with Harry following the burial of the Duke of Edinburgh in April.

“It was extraordinarily odd walking into St George’s Chapel and finding the nave completely empty,” Prince Edward remarked of his father’s burial. “It’s always difficult with these kinds of things because you’re in the middle of it, so you’ve got no idea what it necessarily looks like from the outside. It became really poignant to be there because it was suddenly so very intimate.”

Meghan stated in the interview that she was having such a tough time that she “didn’t want to be alive” and that she struggled to express her feelings to Harry.

She stated: “It was a very real and frightening constant thought. I remember that he just cradled me, and I went to the institution and I said I needed to go somewhere and get help, and I was told that I couldn’t, because it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

In reaction to the interview, the royal family issued the following statement: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
