Despite stepping down as a senior member of the Royal Family in 2020, Meghan Markle is adamant on keeping her royal title, according to an insider. The  source says that the Duchess is concerned about a “PR disaster” if the Queen decides to remove the couple’s royal titles, which sees them officially referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

After marrying Prince Harry in 2018, the former Suits actress was given the royal title, but she now worries that more criticism of Harry’s family could result in the couple losing it, according to a source for Heat Magazine.

The 39-year-old former Suits actress, who married Prince Harry in 2018, recently published a children’s book, The Bench, and continues to use the title in her daily life.

According to the insider “She’s told Harry that they need to tone down the attacks on the royal family – she’s afraid they’ll take away their royal titles, which would be a PR disaster.

“Right now, she’s inundated with offers, and that’s in part to being a Duchess.”

It follows Harry’s recent appearance in Oprah Winfrey’s documentary The Me You Can’t See, in which he dropped some ‘truth bombs’ about his close family members, and his appearance in ‘The Firm,’ in which he dropped some ‘truth bombs’ about his close family members.

He said: “My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to both William and I, ‘Well it was like that for me so it’s going to be like that for you.

“That doesn’t make sense.

“Just because you suffered doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite – if you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences you had, that you can make it right for your kids.”

When Harry revealed his difficulties with royal life, his relatives allegedly urged him to “play the game”

It also comes as a petition was launched “inviting” Prince Harry to “voluntarily ask The Queen to put his royal style, titles, and rank into abeyance.” Lady Colin Campbell, author of Meghan and Harry: The Real Story and other books, launched the online petition, urging the Duke to “voluntarily ask The Queen to put his royal style, titles, and rank into abeyance.”

Buckingham Palace said in January 2020 that Harry and Meghan, who had left the United Kingdom, would stand down from formal royal responsibilities and stop using the titles His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness.

The statement clarified rumors about what the separation would entail: “With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations.

“While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty. The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”
