The Duke and Duchess of Sussex named their daughter Lilibet after the family nickname for the Queen, the baby’s great-grandmother.

It has been reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby name decision might be a peace offering following recent family feuds.

The newborn’s full name Lilibet was one Prince Philip used to call her.

Duncan Larcombe, a royal expert, believes Harry and Meghan’s choice of Lilibet for their daughter is a “major olive branch” from them to the Royal family.

According to Larcombe, Harry’s gesture to The Queen with his newborn girl’s name is the “most royal of names”

“By choosing the childhood name of the Queen, Harry and Meghan have given their daughter the most royal of names,” he argues.

“To many such a specific nod to Her Majesty will be seen as the first major olive branch offered by the Sussexes since Mexit. A sign perhaps Harry and Meghan are eager to build bridges.”

Larcombe adds: “The question really is are there and bridges left to build?
The damage is done, and it’s sadly going to take a lot more from the Sussexes before any healing of the feud can begin.”

Dickie Arbiter, a senior aide to the Queen from 1988 to 2000, also said that the name may constitute a ‘olive branch’ to the Royal Family.

‘He moved to California to distance himself, but choosing this name is a complete about-face,’ he wrote in The Mirror.

‘So I wonder if taking the Queen’s nickname for his baby is an olive branch? Only Harry can answer that.

‘The Queen gave herself the nickname Lilibet because she couldn’t say Elizabeth as a child, and it stuck. I think it’s rather cute.

‘It could be seen as quite controversial to christen a baby with a nickname, and I doubt the little girl will grow up with any other Lilibets in her classes (although people in California call their children all sorts).

‘So maybe that’s Harry and Meghan showing their independence again – just like Archie, another non-royal name.’

The couple’s second child, a sister to two-year-old Archie, was born at 11:40 a.m. at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, and is now ‘settling in at home,’ according to the couple.

‘On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili,’ the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated in a note of appreciation on the Archewell website.

‘She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.’

‘The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family,’ stated their press secretary.

According to royal expert Robert Jobson, the baby’s arrival might help the family mend fences after months of strife.

He said: ‘Any baby’s birth is a blessing. I am delighted for them both. Let’s hope little Lilibet will help heal some of the pressing issues that have been at the heart of the Royal Family in recent months.’
