Lilibet Diana is both British and American

On June 6, Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle, 39, revealed their pleasure at the birth of their daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Their second child was born on Friday at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California, but the proud parents didn’t announce her birth until Sunday. Lili is eligible for dual citizenship because she has an American mother and a British father.

Big brother Archie, 2, was born in England but now lives in America with his parents. He also holds dual citizenship.

Harry is still a British citizen. Meghan, on the other hand, is an American citizen who, unlike her children, does not hold dual citizenship. Meghan did not spend the requisite three years abroad to get her British passport, according to Us Weekly.

In a moving homage to the two ladies, Little Lili was named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname is “Lilibet” and her late grandmother Princess Diana.

The couple made the announcement via their own statement, which was posted on the Archwell Foundation website rather than through the Royal family’s official channels.

“On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we`ve felt from across the globe,” they said.

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

They also included the following personal thank-you message:

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

While Harry travelled to the United Kingdom in April to attend Prince Philip’s funeral, Meghan remained in the United States because she had received medical permission to fly.

The Sussexes haven’t been in the United Kingdom as a family since November 2019, and it’s unclear when Lili will meet her royal cousins.
