If we had to identify the individuals who had a nice 2020, it would include billionaires who became even wealthier during the epidemic, the cast of Normal People, and Kylie Jenner.

Kylie Jenner is the world’s highest-paid celebrity, according to Forbes. The American reality queen and beauty entrepreneur has been crowned the highest earner on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list, with a projected USD $590 million in 2020 earnings.

A significant portion of this sum may be attributed to profits when she sold a controlling interest in her Kylie Cosmetics business to Coty. In exchange for $600 million, she agreed to sell 51 percent of the business.

Jenner is the only woman in Forbes’ top ten, coming in ahead of her brother-in-law Kanye West, who came in second with $170 million.

The 23-year-old received $540 million in pre-tax earnings from this massive sum.

Forbes named the youngest KarJenner the “youngest self-made billionaire” in March 2019 (to much controversy), but withdrew the designation earlier this year after revealing that she was no longer a billionaire — and it’s unclear whether she ever was.

“A more realistic accounting of her personal fortune puts it at just under $900 million,” Forbes wrote at the time, alleging that Jenner’s staff had manipulated the statistics for years and that her accountant had prepared tax filings with fictitious amounts. “We can’t prove that those documents were fake (though it’s likely),” the article read, but, “it’s clear that Kylie’s camp has been lying.”

Despite the sale, she is still in control of the brand’s creative efforts and marketing, which earned $200 million in sales in 2019, according to Forbes.

Kanye West, the beauty mogul’s brother-in-law, was ranked second on Forbes’ list of the highest-paid celebrities, with a large part of his profits coming from the sale of his Yeezy shoes.

Athletes took the third, fourth, and fifth places. Tennis champion Roger Federer received a staggering $106.3 million, while Cristiano Ronaldo got $105 million and Lionel Messi earned $104 million.

The complete list revealed that the world’s highest-paid celebrities earned a stunning aggregate sum of $6.1 billion before taxes and fees, a $200 million decrease from 2019. Last year saw the first decline in total celebrity earnings since 2016.
