Gone Girl actress Lisa Banes dies after hit and run accident

Lisa Banes, a talented actress who rose to fame on the New York stage in the 1980s and had a bustling career that included parts on television and in the films “Cocktail” and “Gone Girl,” died on Monday of head injuries she suffered 10 days earlier when she was hit by a scooter in Manhattan. She was 65.

According to the BBC, Lisa was struck by a scooter while crossing a pedestrian crossing in Manhattan on her way to visit Julliard, her old drama school, on June 4th. She sustained a head injury in the accident and was transported to the hospital, where she died ten days later.

“We are heartsick over Lisa’s tragic and senseless passing,” her manager, David Williams, said in a statement. “She was a woman of great spirit, kindness and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends. We were blessed to have had her in our lives.

According to Sgt. Edward Riley, a police spokesperson, the scooter driver ran through a red light before colliding with Ms. Banes and fleeing.

There have been no arrests by the police.

“The scooter fled the location, continuing northbound,” the NYPD [New York Police Department] stated in a statement, adding that they have yet to locate the perpetrator. “There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.”

According to IMDB, Banes, a native of Ohio, started her acting career in the 1980s. In the 1988 film “Cocktail” she co-starred with Tom Cruise, and in the 2014 film “Gone Gir.” she portrayed Marybeth Elliott, a worried, prickly mother. “Royal Pains,” “Masters of Sex” and “Nashville.” are among her TV credits.

Several celebrities, including singer Jill Sobule, a personal friend of Banes, responded to the news on social media.

“Lisa Banes was magnificent, hilarious, and big-hearted – always helped me through the hard times. She was so beloved by so many,” Sobule tweeted along with a photo of her with Banes.

Seth MacFarlane (the creator of Family Guy and American Dad!) paid homage to Lisa on Twitter, writing, “I am deeply saddened at the news of Lisa Banes’ passing. We had the good fortune to work with her on The Orville this past year. Her stage presence, magnetism, skill and talent were matched only by her unwavering kindness and graciousness toward all of us. A tremendous loss…”

Kathryn Kranhold, Lisa’s wife, has posted personal photos of Lisa on social media, captioning one of them together on a boat as “My Lisa. Our #LisaBanes Our huge loss.”

She encourages anybody with knowledge on the scooter’s driver to contact the authorities.
