Meghan Markle and Prince Harry disclosed some never-before-seen aspects of their lives in the Royal Family in a candid interview with Oprah Winfrey, including the claim that they married three days before their televised wedding and what really happened before they stepped down from their official roles as senior royals.

The split between father and son is one of the most surprising disclosures. In response to Oprah’s query about whether the couple’s decision to move to the United States and change their place in the Royal Family “blindsided” the Queen and Royal Family, Harry claims that he had three talks with the Queen and two with his father, Prince Charles, days before making the announcement—”before he stopped taking my calls,” he said.

Oprah pressed him for more details.

“Why’d he stop taking your calls?” And after a pause, Harry said “Because at that point, I took matters into my own hands.” He continued:”I needed to do this for my family. This is not a surprise to anybody; it’s really sad that it got to this point, but I’ve got to do something for my mental health, for my wife’s, and for Archie’s as well.”

Royal analysts Emily Andrews and Angela Levin addressed Prince Charles and Prince Harry’s relationship during Channel 5’s Royal Family documentary ‘Charles & Harry: Father and Son Divided.’ Prince Charles, according to Ms Andrews, had stopped taking the Duke of Sussex’s calls in order to avoid a confrontation with his son.

Ms Andrews said: “We are told the reason that Charles stopped taking his calls is because Harry kept asking for more money.

“Charles is not someone who likes confrontation so effectively, he just stopped taking his calls.”

“Charles does not have a mobile phone so it is just literally phoning the switchboard and asking to be put through to wherever he is.”

“Prince Charles loves Harry,” Ms Levin continued, “but there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough, and that was it.”

“They got back talking on the phone a short while afterward.”

“My family literally cut me off financially and I had to afford security for us,” Prince Harry told Oprah in March 2021.

According to the Duchy of Cornwall’s most recent accounts, Prince Charles had funded the pair to the tune of $4.49 million a year prior to Megxit.

“The biggest concern was while we were in Canada, in someone else’s house, I then got told, short notice, that security was going to be removed,” he later said.

According to Harry, the money left to him by Diana, Princess of Wales, saved the day financially.

“I’ve got what my mum left me and without that, we would not have been able to do this. I think she saw it coming,” he added.

A “well-placed source” told The Telegraph that “like any parent, Charles did get fed up with Harry’s constant calls for more money.”

“He ploughed a lot into the wedding and the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage (the couple’s Windsor home) and did his utmost to make them feel financially supported but when they said they were upping sticks, they asked for even more,” the source said.

“If he was less inclined to take calls, it might be because he didn’t want to be treated like a cash dispenser. I think a lot of parents will be able to identify with that.”
