Prince Harry said his father informed him and Prince William that they would suffer with royal life as they grew up because that was what he experienced.

According to Harry, Prince Charles would advise his son to ‘play the game,’ and his life would improve, as he recounts in Apple TV’s The Me You Can’t See when discussing painful childhood experiences, including his mother Diana’s death.

‘My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to both William and I, ‘Well it was like that like that for me so it’s going to be like that for you’,’  says Prince Harry in the recent documentary.

‘That doesn’t make sense. Just because you suffered doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite.’

‘If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences you had, that you can make it right for your kids,’ he says.

The 36-year-old Prince Harry tells Winfrey that he doesn’t want to ‘play the game.’

‘I’ve got a hell of a lot of my mum in me. The only way to free yourself and break out is to tell the truth,’ he says.

Prince Harry has said that he disagrees with advice given to him and his brother, William, by his father, Prince Charles, when they were children. According to Harry, Charles advised them that they had no choice but to embrace the life they were born into.

Harry discussed his family’s lack of support as he opened up to them about his problems in The Me You Can’t See, an Apple TV+ series about mental health. After being ridiculed in the media, Harry said that his partner, Meghan Markle, had suicidal thoughts, and that their pleas for assistance were met with “total silence” from the family.

As he raises his son Archie and his daughter, who is due this summer, Prince Harry has stated that he wants to “break the cycle” of “suffering” inherited from his father.

“Isn’t this all about breaking the cycle?” he said. “Isn’t this all about making sure that history doesn’t repeat itself? That whatever cycle of pain and suffering has happened to you that you don’t pass on.”

Both Harry and Meghan Markle have previously spoken openly about their mental health issues, with Meghan revealing that she had suicidal feelings in 2019 during the royal couple’s previous explosive interview with Winfrey in March.

He claims he didn’t tell his family about Meghan’s suicidal thoughts because he was embarrassed the condition had gotten ‘that bad.’

Just a few days ago, the pair celebrated their third wedding anniversary.

The duke said Charles stopped taking his calls after he told him he wanted to move back from the royal family last year in his and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Winfrey, which aired in March.

Harry said in the same interview that he believes his father and brother are “trapped” in royal life.

“My father and my brother, they are trapped,” he said. “They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that.”

In the latest documentary, Harry also admits that when he first began dating Meghan Markle, he didn’t have any support from his family.

“Within the first eight days of our relationship being made public was when they said ‘Harry’s girl is (almost) straight outta Compton’ and that her ‘exotic DNA will be thickening the royal blood,'” the duke said, referring to racist tabloid headlines about the prospective duchess published in 2016.

He went on to say, “I felt completely helpless.” “I thought my family would help, but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, just got met with total silence or total neglect.”

He went on to say that their decision to distance themselves from the royal family was due to a lack of support for Markle.

“We spent four years trying to make it work, we did everything we possibly could to stay there doing the role and doing the job,” Harry said. “But Meghan was struggling.”

Harry has already co-produced the latest documentary series with Winfrey, in which he has said that he was embarrassed to get support from his family because he realized ‘that I’m not going to get from my family what I need.’

‘That was one of the biggest reasons to leave, feeling trapped and feeling controlled through fear, both by the media and by the system itself which never encouraged the talking about this kind of trauma,’ he said.

‘Certainly now I will never be bullied into silence.’

On The Me You Can’t See, the Duke of Sussex has accused the royal family of “total neglect” and claimed that he would not be intimidated.

”Every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, to stop just got met with total silence or total neglect,’ he told Winfrey, referring to his efforts to enlist the help of his family in responding to the online attacks on the Sussexes.

‘We spent four years trying to make it work. We did everything that we possibly could to stay there and carry on doing the role and doing the job.’
