Meghan Markle wore Princess Diana’s Asprey Aquamarine ring to the royal wedding reception as a tribute to her late mother-in-law, the Princess of Wales.

Meghan and her new husband Prince Harry were photographed leaving Windsor Castle for their evening reception at Frogmore House, where Meghan was dressed in a stunning Stella McCartney white halter neck gown.

After exchanging vows with Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England, the former Meghan Markle appeared for the evening festivities wearing another exclusive piece of jewelry: a ring that belonged to Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

It was created in 1997 by Asprey. The ring is set in 24 carat yellow gold and features an emerald-cut aquamarine surrounded by tiny solitaire diamonds.

The blue piece was much more striking against her Stella McCartney white gown. Diana, Princess of Wales, was pictured wearing the ring at a Christie’s sale in London in 1997 of her gowns.

The aquamarine ring was Princess Diana’s, confirmed a Kensington Palace spokesperson, and when the Internet learned that Harry had given it to his new bride, the tears that had just dried up began to flood again.

Diana’s signature diamond was a beautiful emerald-cut ring with an aquamarine stone.

It was another touching way for Prince Harry to pay tribute to his mother at the royal wedding. The Duchess of Sussex carried forget-me-nots in her bridal bouquet earlier in the service, which were Diana’s favorites.

The late royal left the bulk of her jewelry to her sons, with the intention of passing it over to their respective wives in the future. “I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it,” she wrote in her will.

Prince William famously proposed to Kate Middleton with his late mother’s blue diamond sapphire engagement ring, and this isn’t the only prominent blue ring from Diana’s set.

Prince Harry has previously said that if his late mother had met Markle, the two would have become “thick as thieves”.

During his engagement interview, Harry said, “As I said, she would have probably been best friends – best friends with Meghan.”

The duchess’ engagement ring also features two diamonds from Diana’s own set, as revealed at the time of the couple’s engagement.

Richard Kay, a royal commentator and author who knew Diana personally, claims to be able to confirm that the ring was offered to her on the day her divorce was finalized in 1996.

“It was given to her by diplomat’s wife Lucia Flecha de Lima, one of her closest friends, who bought it to replace the engagement ring Diana no longer wanted to wear once her marriage ended,” he wrote in the Daily Mail.
