Brian Hickerson, Hayden Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend, has been sentenced to 45 days in jail.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office confirms to PEOPLE that Hickerson pled no contest on Tuesday to two felony charges of harming a spouse/cohabitant/girlfriend/child’s parent.

He was sentenced to four years of formal probation, 52 domestic violence classes, and a $500 fine. According to the District Attorney’s Office, he also obtained a five-year restraining order.

He must surrender to the Los Angeles Men’s Central Jail by Friday, May 7.

Hickerson was arrested on numerous felony charges in July, according to a criminal indictment obtained by PEOPLE, including four counts of corporal harm on a spouse/cohabitant, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and one count of threatening a witness. He was also charged with violence on a spouse/cohabitant, a misdemeanor.

During his sentence on Tuesday, the remainder of his charges were dismissed.

All of the allegations, according to the complaint, were committed against Panettiere, 31, whom he allegedly began dating in the summer of 2018. The bail amount was set at $320,000.

In May 2019, Hickerson pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles courthouse to a felony domestic violence charge, and a judge imposed a restraining order prohibiting him from going within 100 yards of the actress.

According to jail records, he was detained about 2:25 a.m. on May 2 and released the following day on $50,000 bail. Multiple news agencies claimed in September 2019 that his lawsuit was dropped during a hearing in Los Angeles.

Hickerson was arrested again on Valentine’s Day, 2020, in Jackson, Wyoming. He was charged with domestic violence and interfering with a cop, both of which are misdemeanors in Wyoming, according to a spokeswoman for the Teton County Sheriff’s Office at the time. Hickerson reportedly hit Panettiere “with a closed fist on the right side of her face,” according to court records obtained by TMZ.

Hickerson reportedly tried to persuade Panettiere not to pursue justice against him in June.

“I am coming forward with the truth about what happened to me with the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve,” Panettiere said in a statement following Hickerson’s arrest. “I am prepared to do my part to make sure this man never hurts anyone again. I’m grateful for my support system, which helped me find the courage to regain my voice and my life.”

Alan Jackson, Panettiere’s attorney, told TMZ in July, “After suffering for years as the victim of psychological, emotional and severe physical abuse, Hayden Panettiere has begun the process of taking back her life. Hayden has found the strength and courage to share the truth about her abuse and her abuser, and she intends to assist the prosecution to see that justice is served. As a survivor, she recognizes that her arduous journey of healing has just begun.”
