Prince Harry has said that the royal family wanted to discredit Meghan before her interview with Oprah Winfrey, and that The Firm is still ‘trying to control the narrative,’ and that he has ‘no regrets’ for expressing his thoughts.

In the closing minutes of the final episode of his recent five-part television series on mental wellbeing, Harry made the explosive comment while discussing the aftermath from his March interview with Oprah.

Harry said, “Before the interview had aired, because of their headlines and the combined effort of The Firm and the media to smear her, I was woken up in the middle of the night to her crying into her pillow because she doesn’t want to wake me up because I’m already carrying too much.

“That is heartbreaking. I held her. We talked. She cried, and she cried, and she cried.”

“I’ve never had any anger through this, I’ve always had compassion.

A spokesperson for Meghan Markle said: “The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.

“She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”

When she was six months pregnant with their son Archie, Harry said his wife had a good vision about how she wanted to end her life.

On the way to the Royal Albert Hall in London, Harry’s wife told him she tried to kill herself, and she talked of the ‘practicalities of how she was going to end her life,’ saying it reminded him of his mother’s final weeks in 1997.

He said: ‘Meghan decided to share with me the suicidal thoughts and the practicalities of how she was going to end her life’, adding that she later decided against it because she didn’t want Harry to lose ‘another woman in my life’.

The Duke said that ‘history was repeating itself’ because Princess Diana died in 1997 while with Dodi Fayed, an Egyptian by birth, and that there was a genuine concern that he would lose Meghan.

‘History was repeating itself. My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone who wasn’t white. And now look what’s happened.

‘It’s incredibly triggering to potentially lose another woman in my life. Like, the list is growing. And it all comes back to the same people, the same business model, the same industry.’

The Duke said that one of his ‘biggest reasons’ for leaving for California last year was that he and his wife feel betrayed by his family, and that he had ‘no regrets’ over his decision.

He added: ‘That feeling of being trapped within the family, there was no option to leave. Eventually when I made that decision for my family, I was still told, ‘You can’t do this’, And it’s like, ‘Well how bad does it have to get until I am allowed to do this?’. She [Meghan] was going to end her life. It shouldn’t have to get to that.’

Harry appears to be referring to a March 2 article in The Times of London that said Meghan has been accused of bullying and harassing employees when she was a working royal.

Information of an email sent by Jason Knauf, Meghan and Harry’s former PR chief, to Prince William’s private secretary were cited in the well-sourced article by royal reporter Valentine Low. “I am very concerned that the Duchess was able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year. The treatment of X* was totally unacceptable.”

“The Duchess seems intent on always having someone in her sights. She is bullying Y and seeking to undermine her confidence. We have had report after report from people who have witnessed unacceptable behavior towards Y.”

“I questioned if the Household policy on bullying and harassment applies to principals,” the email said.

According to the newspaper, Harry directly intervened and “pleaded with Knauf not to pursue it.” Harry would not intervene with staff affairs, according to a spokeswoman for the Sussexes.

Meghan called the story a smear tactic and refuted all of the charges.

The allegations are being investigated by Buckingham Palace.
