Authorities reported yesterday that children’s television personality “Pee-wee Herman” was arrested for allegedly exposing himself inside an adult cinema.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s affidavit, the defendant, whose actual name is Paul Reubens, 38, of Studio City, Calif., was detained when undercover investigators stormed the South Trail Cinema in a sting operation. According to the affidavit, Reubens was caught exposing himself and masturbating.
According to a recorded announcement from the cinema, Nancy Nurse, Turn Up The Heat, and Tiger Shark are screening.
After posting a $219 bail, Reubens was charged with exposing a sexual organ and released from the county prison. According to a booking officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity, three additional persons were detained on similar allegations.
The Studio City, Calif., individual may face up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine if convicted of the misdemeanor, according to Lt. Bill Stookey, a Sarasota County sheriff’s spokeswoman.
Dan Dannheiser, Reubens’ Sarasota attorney, said his client would not comment. However, he claimed that the allegation would jeopardize Reubens’ career.
Dannheiser told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, “He does a lot of things with kids over the world and his career will be over when that story runs.”
Reubens had been in town on vacation, according to Dannheiser. Sarasota is where Reubens’ parents live.
According to the attorney, cops were unaware that they had arrested a celebrity until Reubens was escorted to the jail and told them.
Reubens’ Saturday morning comedy show, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, has won Emmy awards and a wide audience of children, adolescents, and adults.
